Owen Hall
1. How do I hook up the internet?
To hook up the internet, place an Ethernet cord into the red jack in the wall. In order to gain access to the campus server, residents must first download the free software made available through the NGCSU website. A prompt will appear at the first attempt to open internet connection.
2. What do I do if I get locked out?
Residents who are locked out should attempt to locate roommates first for assistance. If roommates are unavailable, the Owen Hall staff will be more then happy to open your apartment. First lockouts are always free, but additional lockouts cost $25.00 each while the office is open and $50 each weekdays between midnight and 8 am.
3. What do I do if I lose my key?
If residents lose a key, stop by the Owen office and the staff will make a new key. There is a $10 charge for the first lost key. Additional lost keys will cost $50 each. For safety purposes, the code on the apartment door will be changed. Subsequently, all roommates will need to stop by the Owen Hall office to have their keys recharged.
4. How do I get a laundry card?
Residents may obtain a laundry card by visiting the laundry card machines located in the terrace lobby behind the ping pong table. The fee for a laundry card is $2. The machines only accept $5, $10, or $20 bills. Those additional funds will be placed on the laundry card to use as a declining balance. After initially purchasing a laundry card, money may be reloaded onto the same card without paying the $2 purchase fee again.
5. What are the visitation rules?
The visitation rules for this contract year are as follows:
1. Any member of the opposite sex must sign in with the office anytime he or she enters the building.
2. Visitation Hours: Monday- Thursday 10 AM- 12 PM
Weekends: Friday 10 AM- Sunday Midnight
6. When is rent due?
Rent is currently due on the first day of the month. There is a 5 day grace period for rent payment. Any payment turned in on or after the 6th day of the month is considered late. A 5% late fee will be applied to your balance.
Rent for the 2009-2010 year will be billed semesterly by default. Payments are due when other NGCSU fees are due. Students who wish to take a monthly payment option must notify the Owen Hall office in writing and will be charged a $50 one-time set up fee.
7. My key keeps getting demagnetized. What’s going on?
Most often a demagnetized key means that a card has been placed near a cell phone, another magnetic key strip, or on something electronic. If this happens, stop by the Owen office and the office staff will re-magnetize your card. Residents are never charged a lock-out fee for a demagnetized card.
8. Where may I smoke?
NGCSU is a tobacco free campus. The only available places on campus to smoke are the smoke shacks. The smoke shack closest to Owen Hall is behind Donovan Hall in the resident parking zone. Smoking is prohibited in or outside of Owen Hall. Violators will be referred for disciplinary sanction.
9. Where do I go if the fire alarm goes off?
If the fire alarm begins to go off, exit the building immediately. Do not use the elevator, only use the stairs. Please move to the front parking lot of the building for further instruction.
10. How do I rent a buggy?
Need help carrying in all of those groceries or items from home? Stop by the Owen Office with a photo ID and check out one of our buggies!
11. Where is the laundry room?
The laundry rooms are located on the 2nd and 4th floors. Turn right off of the elevator, and laundry rooms are ahead on the left.
12. How do I rent the vacuum cleaner?
The Owen Office has one vacuum cleaner available to borrow. Just stop by the Owen Office with a photo ID to check it out.
13. What if I have a maintenance problem in my apartment?
If there are any problems in your apartment (a broken faucet, a clogged shower, a blown light), just call or stop by the office. Owen Hall staff will put in a maintenance request. Owen Hall’s Maintenance Supervisor is only in the building Monday-Friday. If something happens over the weekend please contact our office. Emergency situations, such as a flooding toilet, will be handled immediately.
14. What does the panic button in my apartment do?
Panic buttons are located in each bedroom in Owen Hall. These buttons are available for medical or safety emergencies. DO NOT TOUCH THE PANIC BUTTON UNLESS THERE IS A REAL EMERGENCY! The police department and the Owen Hall office will be notified if the button is pressed. Anyone found to have pressed the button without an actual emergency will be fined $100. The top to a soda bottle fits well over the button to prevent inadvertent pressing.
15. Where do I take the trash?
Trash bins are located on the back of the building in the parking lot near the 1300’s hall.
16. How does the free phone service in Owen Hall work?
Each apartment shares one phone line and there are phone jacks in each bedroom. The phone service for this building is only for local calls. In order to call out of the building you must dial 9, then the area code, and then the number. Phone cards may be used to call out of the area. All major cell phone carriers have excellent service in the Dahlonega area.
17. Who do I make the monthly rent checks out to?
Rent checks should be made payable to NGCSU and may be dropped off in the Owen Hall office.
18. Do we have a curfew at Owen Hall?
No, Owen Hall does not enforce a curfew policy.
19. How do I rent out the terrace or the study room?
In order to rent out the terrace or the study room, you must come to the Owen Office and fill out a form that will need to be approved by the property manager.
20. Where should I park?
Residents of Owen Hall park in any residential parking zones, including the former blue zone which is located right outside the building.
21. What about visitors?
Visitors from NGCSU non-resident (white sticker) zones may only park in Owen Hall’s 30 minute parking spots. Visitors still risk being ticketed by public safety if they go over the 30 minute time allotted. Should the 30 minute spots be full, visitors must park in their assigned zones.
Visitors not from NGCSU may stop by the NGCSU Welcome Center to pick up a visitor’s pass. Visitors with a pass may park in the visitor designated spaces in the Owen Hall parking lot.
