Subscribe to the NGCSU Faculty/Staff "Discussion Forum" LISTSERV!

This is an informal forum made possible through the approval and efforts of NGCSU President Nathaniel Hansford, the 2003-2004 NGCSU Faculty Senate, and an ad-hoc Discussion Forum Committee chaired by Dr. D. Brian Mann. It has been implemented in consultation with Jay Steed, NGCSU Chief Information Officer, and its ongoing operation will be supervised by the Senate. It is not moderated, but is subject to maintenance and editing by a "list owner," as per the policy for all University of Georgia-based listservs. Participation is limited to those who are subscribed to the regular faculty/staff listserv at NGCSU.

The NGCSU Discussion Forum is a private listserv whose membership is limited to NGCSU faculty & staff who are already subscribed to the regular NGCSU faculty/staff e-mail list. To subscribe, simply click here to send an e-mail to the list owner requesting that you be added to the list. In it, type "Subscribe" in the subject line and then type your e-mail address and full (first & last) name in the body of the message. By the way, since this is a selective list rather than an institutional one, I have to do this manually. So it may take me a few days to get around to checking for new subscribers and enroll you.

When your subscription is processed, you should receive two communications. One contains all of the procedures necessary for the maintenance of your membership - how to post messages, how to unsubscribe, etc. The other contains the list usage guidelines outlined below. Please read them both carefully and keep them for future reference.

  Appropriate Topics for Discussion:

Topics that are appropriate for discussion include (but are certainly not restricted to) the following:

  Inappropriate Conduct:

The Discussion Forum Committee believes that as a constitutional right and fundamental principle to democracy, free speech should be supported and encouraged in this forum. However, the Committee is also duty-bound to strongly discourage the following:

Subscribers engaging in such conduct should realize that they are subject to the same sanctions, disciplinary actions, and prosecution they can expect in any other institutional or public domain. The committee encourages members to consult the the State of Georgia's AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) for information technology resources at the following URL for any questions they might have:

  Some "Netiquette" Tips:

The following helpful hints will help make discussions more substantive and pleasant and, as more subscribers come on-line, keep the overall volume of communications at a tolerable level:

  Unsubscribing from the Discussion List:

If you end up LOSING your greeting/instructions message and want to get OFF the discussion list, here's how to do it:

You can either remove yourself permanently from a LISTSERV list or you can temporarily suspend mail from a LISTSERV list. In either case, you need to first log onto the system you used to subscribe to the list (your NGCSU e-mail account).

To permanently remove yourself from a list, send mail to LISTSERV at the nodeid of the list with the following one line as the body of the mail:

signoff listname

The "listname" is the name of the list from which you wish to be removed. For example, if I wanted to unsubscribe from the list, I would send a message to NGCSUDISCUSS-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU with the command: SIGNOFF NGCSUDISCUSS-L@LISTSERV.UGA.EDU in the body of the message.

To temporarily suspend mail from a list, send mail to LISTSERV at the nodeid of the list with the following one line as the body of the mail:

set listname nomail

To resume mail, send the same one-line message and change "nomail" to "mail".

To offer comments, ask questions, or make suggestions, please contact Dr. D. Brian Mann, Primary List Owner.
